Mainstage Shows
Take the Stage with TCT
Our Mainstage Productions give young performers the opportunity to be part of a fully staged musical - from auditions and rehearsals to opening night. Students work alongside a creative team to develop their skills, build friendships, and experience everything that goes into bringing a show to life.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Mainstage Productions are TCT's full-scale theatrical productions! Students work with a creative team through several weeks of rehearsals to bring a complete show to life with acting, singing, choreography, costumes, sets, lighting, and more.
Unlike a class or workshop, Mainstage is centered around producing and performing a specific show for a live audience. It's an exciting opportunity for students who are ready to take on a larger commitment and experience the full production process from audition to closing night.
-
Each Mainstage Production is designed for a specific range of grade levels based on the show, available roles, and needs of the production. Eligibility will always be listed with the audition information for each show.
Students do not have to be currently enrolled in another TCT program to audition. Mainstage Productions are open to eligible students in our community, and participation is determined through the audition and casting process.
-
Not necessarily! Students come to TCT with all different levels of experience, including students auditioning for their very first production.
Previous training can certainly be helpful, but we're also looking for students who are prepared, willing to learn, able to take direction, and excited to be part of a team. Every production has different needs, and there are many ways for a young performer to contribute to a cast.
If your child isn't quite ready to audition, or simply wants some extra preparation, our workshops and private lessons are great opportunities to build skills and confidence.
-
Auditions help our creative team get to know each student as a performer and determine how they can best fit into the needs of a particular production.
An audition isn't about finding only the most experienced or "best" performers. Our team considers many factors when building a cast, including acting, singing, movement, preparation, ability to take direction, character fit, chemistry between performers, and the needs of the ensemble as a whole.
Think of an audition as the first step in putting together the puzzle of a production…every role and every cast member helps bring the story to life!
-
Not always. Because each production has a limited number of roles and different casting needs, auditioning does not guarantee a place in the cast.
Our creative team considers the needs of the show as a whole when making casting decisions, including available roles, age and character requirements, vocal and acting needs, and how performers work together as an ensemble.
We know auditioning takes courage, and we want every student to walk away from the experience having learned something, regardless of the casting outcome. Students who aren't cast are always encouraged to continue growing through TCT workshops, private lessons, and future audition opportunities.
-
Mainstage Productions require a greater time commitment than workshops, camps, or private lessons. Students typically rehearse multiple times each week over several weeks, with the schedule becoming more intensive as performances approach.
Cast members are expected to attend required rehearsals, arrive prepared and on time, practice material outside of rehearsal when needed, and participate fully in Tech Week and performances.
We know families are busy, so the rehearsal schedule, performance dates, attendance expectations, tuition, and other important commitments are provided before auditions whenever possible. We encourage families to review everything carefully before committing to a production.
Every cast member matters, and consistent attendance is an important part of creating a successful show together.
